When working with 12 volt landscape lighting there is a need to design with voltage drop in mind. The amount of voltage drop will vary with the total watts used, where those watts are in the line, length of the line and size of wire used. I have made a voltage drop chart for quick reference that I print out when working on a 12 volt lighting job.

This is by no means a comprehensive how to on lighting. While 12 volt systems are relatively safe, there are still safety issues with the 120 volt transformers...so read the those safety instructions!
