What is a cubic yard?
fills a cube 3'x3'x3' equals 27 cubic feet
It's a heaping scoop of the loader bucket we normally use to load. Keep in mind there are different sizes “scoops” out there. I know a place locally where you can get a “scoop” cheaper than with us...but it takes 3 of their scoops to make a yard! An S-10 type truck holds one yard easily...a couple inches under the rails leveled. If heaped up a little, an S-10 can hold a yard and a half of mulch. Full size pickups can hold as much as 3 yards mulch. If in doubt get a smaller load...we load mulch all day. :)
How much do you need?
We recommend figuring a depth of 3" for new beds that tend to be a bit uneven, 2 " or less for touching up older beds, and never more than 2" deep around trees.
For a 3" depth estimate your square footage and divide by 100 to find the number of cubic yards needed.
For a 2" depth estimate your square footage and divide by 160 to find the number of cubic yards needed.
