It happens over and over during the height of the spring planting season. A customer is describing part of their landscape or a type of plant they would like and I think of the perfect plant, except... It's one of those that hasn't flushed out well yet or showing it's true colors.
Itea is one of my favorite plants, yet it is so hard to sell in the spring. It's foliage generally persists through the winter and it is in process of shedding the old dying leaves before pushing new growth.
SO I'm extolling all the virtues of itea and many seasons of color while pointing to something that appears to be drab or even dying in comparison to all the other vibrant looking plants. Yet I persist.
Itea thrives in a wide range of conditions, has few pests or diseases, healthy foliage, white summer flowers and red fall color that often persists into winter.
