A peek at Spring

Tree in Bloom

A short Florida vacation last weekend gave me a preview of spring. The flowering trees were mostly species not found in Ohio, but there were a few familiar blooms here and there.  This first image (click them for full size) has great contrast in texture and color.  The effect was pretty exotic.  Just what a guy from Ohio needs in February!

Nicotiana

Here is some Nicotiana (flowering tobacco) tucked into a bed of mixed annuals.  This flower is supposedly very fragrant at night.  I've honestly never noticed any aroma.  Maybe I need to sneak up on one some evening.

Planter with allysum and geranium

This tub planted with geranium, allysum and red fountain grass reminded me of the containers we plant around the garden center.   Just a couple more months away!

A Tropical Wonderland

Yellow Blooms and other Tropical Trees

The sheer variety of plants amazes me on my trips south.  If this yellow flowering tree would grow in Ohio we could sell thousands of them!  I'll get our team of genetic scientists working on it...

More Tropical Foliage

The abundance of coarser textures available gives a Florida landscaper envious options.
